What is the Walk Against Hunger?

What is Foodshare’s Walk Against Hunger?
Foodshare’s Walk Against Hunger is the largest anti-hunger fundraising event in Connecticut to benefit local families and children in need of food. The new walk route will feature a 2.5 mile walk through Bushnell Park and Hartford’s West End. This event is family-friendly and fun!

Why Walk?
Hunger  is a serious problem in our communities. Over 128,000 people, including 50,000 children and more than 10,000 seniors, need emergency food assistance in greater Hartford each year. For every $30 you raise for the Walk, Foodshare can distribute a month’s worth of food for a hungry neighbor.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can join the  Muslims Against Hunger Team?
We would like to encourage all members of masajid and slamic organizations and schools to join the team – last year we had 10 Muslim organizations and groups join the Muslims Against Hunger team! Please contact Aida Mansoor at aidamansoor@mcct.us if you would like your group/masjid to be represented as part of the team – we can add your logo to our T-shirts!

How much does a Walker Need to Raise?
While Foodshare is appreciative of any and all donations made to the Walk, they do encourage participants to raise at least $90 to earn an event Foodshare T-shirt. Team totals vary with the size of the team. Typically a team is made up of 4 or more people, so a target team goal would be $360 or more. Our team the Muslims Against Hunger had over 200 walkers and raised over $5,000 last year –  Alhamdulillah! Our awesome team has raised over $25,000 over the last 5 years!

How do I get involved?

Start off by registering with the Muslims Against Hunger Team online at the link above. Then, set a fundraising goal, engage co-workers, students,
