Assalaam Alaikum/May God's peace be with you!
Thank you to all those who attended our 8th Annual Leadership Banquet November 16, 2014. This year we gave awards to Maha Elgenaidi, from Islamic Networks Group and Ellen Boynton from DHMAS for their commitment to the cause of promoting understanding between people of different cultures and backgrounds. For being instrumental in setting up cultural diversity and sensitivity trainings.
Both our senators - Senator Blumenthal and Senator Murphy were present and shared a few words with us about the beauty of diversity.
"America is not strong because of its military might. America is strong because of its diversity and its ability to harness talent from all over the world...immigration reform is important for strengthening our country...and why I advocate for the new law that passed the senate ...and against hate crimes. Our beacon to the world is our ideals to work on common grounds."
Senator Blumenthal
At this year's Leadership Banquet we were blessed with an excellent keynote speaker - Dalia Mogahed who presented and received a standing ovation for her keynote entitled "The Five Competencies of the Wisdom Age: Diversity by Divine Design,"
" If the 19th Century was the dawn of the Industrial age, and the twentieth Century brought the world the information age and then the knowledge age, then to continue progress and evolve, the world must see a 21st Century Wisdom Age. Rather than faster assembly lines or faster information highways, those who will lead in the wisdom age will be those with the ability to slow down and make sense of speed. This must be the age of compassion, not zero sum competition, the age of holistic thinking, not short-term solutions."
Dalia Mogahed
She continued by sharing five competencies of the Wisdom age.
We thank Dalia for her beautiful words and for her thought-provoking and engaging speech and we thank all our awardees, guests and volunteers!
Please take a moment to view our first batch of photos from the evening.
