Donations for the Homeless 
Thank you for your donations for gloves, hats and socks! We distributed 108 warm gloves, 120 hats and 250 socks at the shelter serve yesterday (on December 7, 2013). Thank you for all your support. It is TRULY appreciated.
Thank you also to all the cooks and servers who volunteered a large chunk of their weekend to serve the community. 
Mercy shelter staff commented on how many ask them about when Muslim Coalition of Connecticut is coming to serve again because "their food is SO good!" - Thank you also for your continuous support in this venture and for making a difference to those in need.
We will be collecting more socks to distribute to area shelters in January. Please let us know if your masjid would like to participate in this initiative! We will be also collecting donations to purchase gloves and hats. Please send any donations for this initiative to us Attn: Shelter drive, 705 North Mountain Road, Suite E102, Newington, CT 06111 and please write "for gloves and hats" on the check memo.

The documentary film, Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World is a ninety-minute film that takes audiences on an epic journey across nine countries and over 1,400 years of history. It explores themes such as the Word, Space, Ornament, Color and Water and presents the stories behind many great masterworks of Islamic Art and Architecture.

The film explores the richness of Islamic art in objects big and small, from great ornamented palaces and the play of light in monumental mosques to the exquisite beauty of ceramics, carved boxes, paintings and metal work.  It revels in the use of color and finds commonalities in a shared artistic heritage with the West and East. The film also examines the unique ways in which Islamic art turns calligraphy and the written word into masterpieces and develops water into an expressive, useful art form.

Like all art, Islamic art carries with it the fundamental values and perspectives of the artists who created it as well as those who commissioned and paid for it.  It incorporates the basic themes of transcendent beauty common to all creative endeavors.
