INFO from Hartford Habitat :

1.      Getting to the building site:  See attached map and directions (HabitatSouthMarshallStreetsite.doc).  There is a parking lot for volunteers at the corner of South Marshall Street & Hawthorn Street -- with a sign for “Habitat Parking.”

2.      Arrive at 7:45am for the safety talk.  Participating in the safety talk is mandatory in order to volunteer. We understand that volunteers may have to leave early due to special circumstances. We only have one safety speech at 7:45 a.m., so we cannot accommodate volunteers who arrive later in the day.

3.      The workday is 7:45am - 3:30pm.  Be prepared to stay for the WHOLE WORK DAY.

4.      Dress to WORK: T-shirts or work shirts, and rugged pants / shorts (long pants recommended).  NO loose-hanging clothing; tuck everything in for safety’s       sake!  Also remember that construction work -- with building supplies, tools and dirt -- is tough on clothes.

5.      Wear protective footwear: solid soles, covered toes; rugged sneakers, shoes or work boots.  NO sandals, loafers, etc.

6.      Dress for the WEATHER: dress for heat and sunshine *or* rain; a broad-brimmed hat can be a very good idea.  Bring and use sunscreen !  You might also want to bring & use big repellent.

7.      Download & print the INSURANCE WAIVER (on this webpage below as attachement and also at www.hartfordhabitat.org ), fill it in completely, SIGN and bring it with you to the construction site on our build day.

8.      Tools and gloves are provided, but you can bring the following tools if you have them:  safety glasses, work gloves, hammer, nail apron, 25’ tape measure, pencil, utility knife, unbreakable coffee mug.  MARK YOUR TOOLS & PERSONAL ITEMS with your name for easy identification.

9.      Bring your own bagged lunch.  Habitat supplies coffee; other volunteers will offer a small morning snack, but bring a lunch that will get you through the day.

10.    Bring bottled water for yourself.  Habitat will have some water on site, but the construction crew is large, so bring water for yourself to make sure there’ll be enough.

11.    If the build day is cancelled due to weather or emergency, Habitat will call the group leader (me) by 6:30am to notify us.  I NEED YOUR CELL PHONE # so I can contact you quickly that morning if necessary, or before that if other issues arise.

12.    Have a GREAT TIME and thank you for volunteering.
